Melissa A. Benson Playmats

Our Melissa A. Benson playmats are all signed, covering three of her earliest Magic illustrations — Nightmare and Shivan Dragon, both from Alpha (1993), each offered plain and as a numbered Limited Edition, plus Lord of Atlantis in two editions, one also a numbered Limited Edition — and the multi-artist Ultimate Combat! tatami, made with Anson Maddocks and others.

One of Magic's earliest artists

Melissa A. Benson's first Magic illustration, Shivan Dragon, appeared in Limited Edition Alpha (1993) — the same illustration used on the Shivan Dragon playmats in this collection. Her last new illustration for Magic debuted in Urza's Legacy (1999).

A tatami made with four other artists

The Ultimate Combat! tatami is a playmat for a different card game, not Magic — made by Khalsa Brain Games, the company behind our Spellground playmats, and signed and sketched by four artists together, Benson among them alongside Anson Maddocks, Bryon Wackwitz and Mark Tedin.

What's in this collection

Nightmare and Shivan Dragon are each offered in two versions: a plain signed print and a signed numbered Limited Edition. Lord of Atlantis is signed, and a second edition, "The Threat (Lord of Atlantis)," is a signed, numbered Limited Edition.

Condition and photographs

All of these are signed, and one — the Ultimate Combat! tatami — is also sketched. Every listing uses real photographs of the actual playmat, so you can check the surface and the signature before buying.
