Bryon Wackwitz Playmats

Every Bryon Wackwitz playmat here is signed. His Legends-era card art — Pendelhaven in four versions, Urborg, Angus Mackenzie and Force Spike — sits alongside Order of Leitbur, hand-drawn originals, a Juzám Djinn he airbrushed from a Mark Tedin sketch, and three multi-artist pieces, one of them a tatami for another card game. Many are stitched.

From Legends to Alliances

Bryon Wackwitz's Magic illustrations first appeared in Legends (1994) — Urborg was his first — and his card art went on to debut in Fallen Empires, Ice Age and Alliances, across Magic's early years.

Pendelhaven, four ways

Pendelhaven, one of his Legends lands, appears here in four versions: the card art signed and sketched, a stitched "Bee Series" Limited Edition of 100 that adds bees and flowers, and stitched "Burning" and "Frozen" reinterpretations of the same scene.

What's in this collection

Other card art covers Urborg, Angus Mackenzie and Force Spike, all from Legends and all stitched, and Order of Leitbur from Fallen Empires, which printed two of his illustrations of the card; this playmat combines elements from more than one version of the card art.

Four hand-drawn originals — "Cerberus," "Giant Birds," "Undead Army" and "Dragon, Goats & Monolith" — are stitched and aren't card art, and neither are "Shark" or "Botched Encounter," a Series 1 Limited Edition of 25. "Juzám Djinn & City of Brass" is airbrushed from a concept sketch by Mark Tedin and also sits in our Juzám Djinn collection.

Multi-artist pieces

Three pieces are collaborations rather than solo work: a hand-drawn Eternal Weekend 2017 playmat signed by several artists, "The Gathering: Reuniting Pioneering Artists of Magic," from a Kickstarter campaign, and a signed and sketched Ultimate Combat! tatami — a playmat for a different card game, made by Khalsa Brain Games, the company behind our Spellground playmats.

Condition and photographs

Because these are signed, individually finished pieces, condition matters as much as the artwork. Every listing uses real photographs of the actual playmat, so you can check the surface and the signature before buying.
