Mox Sapphire Playmats

Most of our Mox Sapphire playmats use Dan Frazier's original 1993 Alpha illustration, including logo variants and a sketched second version, and most are signed. Raoul Vitale's Vintage Championship version and two event editions round out the card art, alongside “Mox Sapphire Dragon” — an original Frazier design — and a hand-drawn Power Nine piece signed by several artists.

One of the Power Nine, and where it can still be played

Mox Sapphire debuted in Limited Edition Alpha (1993) with art by Dan Frazier, who illustrated the whole Mox cycle. It's banned in Legacy and Commander and restricted to a single copy in Vintage and in Old School — the two formats where it is still legal at all. As a Reserved List card it has never had a normal reprint, and every version since has come from outside regular retail printings: Magic Online sets, the 30th Anniversary Edition, and championship art.

A second illustrator, from the Vintage Championship

Raoul Vitale illustrated his version for the 2016 Eternal Weekend Vintage Championship North America, one of five Moxen he reillustrated for those championships between 2014 and 2017. That playmat is here, and the rest of the cycle is in his own collection.

What's in this collection

Most playmats here are signed by Frazier, and two are also sketched. Three are variants of his Alpha artwork: a “[Magic Logo Version]”, an “[Old Magic Logo Version]” and a sketched “[V. 2]”. “Mox Sapphire Dragon” is an original Frazier design built around the Mox rather than the card illustration. Two more come from events — the 2019 Vintage Championship Asia and a Tokyo MTG edition — and “The Power Nine” is a hand-drawn piece covering all nine Power cards, signed by several of their artists.

Condition and photographs

Because most of these are signed, individually finished pieces, condition matters as much as the artwork. Every listing uses real photographs of the actual playmat, so you can check the surface and the signature before buying.
