Collection: Greg Staples Playmats

Our Greg Staples playmats feature six of his illustrations — Empyrial Archangel, Sensei's Divining Top, Baneslayer Angel, Deflecting Swat, Serra Angel and Mahamoti Djinn — most signed by the artist. Four are Limited Editions of 50 to 200 copies, offered stitched; Serra Angel is also available in an unlimited signed printing, and Mahamoti Djinn as a signed-only piece.

Nearly three decades of Magic art

Greg Staples' Magic illustrations date back to Urza's Saga (1998) and continue into current sets, most recently Marvel Super Heroes (2026). His work has appeared across Secret Lair drops (2021–2025) and several Universes Beyond crossovers, including Assassin's Creed, Doctor Who and Marvel's Spider-Man. He is the only artist ever credited for Baneslayer Angel, across every printing from its debut in Magic 2010 (2009) through Core Set 2021. His Serra Angel, first printed in Ninth Edition (2005), replaced the card's original 1993 Alpha art by Douglas Shuler.

What's in this collection

Staples has illustrated hundreds of Magic cards; only a handful have become playmats. Sensei's Divining Top, Baneslayer Angel and Deflecting Swat are Limited Editions of 200, 100 and 50 signed copies; Serra Angel is available both as a Limited Edition of 50 and as an unlimited signed printing; Mahamoti Djinn and Empyrial Archangel are offered outside any numbered edition.

Condition and photographs

Because several of these are signed, limited and numbered pieces, condition and edition number matter as much as the artwork. Every listing uses real photographs of the actual playmat, so you can check the surface, the signature and the edition number before buying.
