Sol Ring Playmats

Our Sol Ring playmats span six illustrators, from Mark Tedin's original 1993 Alpha art across six playmats — Eternal Weekend, CommandFest and MagicFest editions among them — to Mike Bierek's Commander Championship mat, Mark Poole's Commander Masters version, Dan Frazier's, and two Fallout crossover pieces. Several are signed and several stitched; the Nuka-Cola Quantum variant is a Limited Edition of 500.

Banned, restricted, and the most played card in Commander

Sol Ring debuted in Limited Edition Alpha (1993) with art by Mark Tedin, and its legality tells the whole story: banned in Legacy, restricted to a single copy in Vintage and in Old School, and legal in Commander, where it is close to an automatic inclusion. Sixty artists have illustrated it across 142 printings. The one most players actually own is Mike Bierek's, first painted for From the Vault: Relics (2010) and reprinted in nearly every Commander deck since Commander 2011, right through Foundations (2024).

What's in this collection

Six playmats use Tedin's original Alpha artwork, from Eternal Weekend 2017's Vintage Championship North America — one signed with a large signature, another with an Eye of Sauron sketch — to CommandFest and MagicFest editions. Bierek's version appears on the Grand Prix Richmond 2018 Commander Championship mat. Mark Poole's Commander Masters artwork and Dan Frazier's both feature, Frazier's also on a Duel Commander Cup Top 8 mat from MagicCon Amsterdam 2024. Two come from the Fallout crossover: AKQA's, and Aaron J. Riley's “Nuka-Cola Quantum Variant,” a stitched Limited Edition of 500 copies from MagicCon Chicago 2024.

Condition and photographs

Because several of these are signed, sketched or individually numbered, condition and edition number matter as much as the artwork. Every listing uses real photographs of the actual playmat, so you can check the surface, the signature and (where relevant) the edition number before buying.
