Zack Stella Playmats

Our Zack Stella playmats bring together five different tournament and convention prints, released between 2015 and 2019 — two from Grand Prix Toronto, plus Pax East Boston, Nationals Japan and Eternal Weekend Europe — covering Belltoll Dragon, Chandra, Bold Pyromancer, Colossus of Akros, Flooded Strand and True-Name Nemesis. One, Chandra, Bold Pyromancer, is stitched.

From Grand Prix booths to Wizards' own studio

Zack Stella's Magic illustrations date back to 2013, the same year his art appeared on judge promos and in Modern Masters; he's remained active as a freelance illustrator on Magic cards ever since. Since 2019 he has also worked in-house at Wizards of the Coast as an Art Director for Magic Creative, and is now its Senior Art Director. Reality Fracture (2026) is the first full set he's led as Lead Art Director from world guide onward — and he also illustrated one of its cards himself, an Island, continuing to paint alongside directing. His work has appeared in three Secret Lair drops, from 2022 to 2023.

What's in this collection

These five playmats each commemorate a different tournament or convention: two Grand Prix Toronto prints (Colossus of Akros, 2013, and Belltoll Dragon, 2015), a Pax East Boston 2018 stitched Chandra, Bold Pyromancer, a Flooded Strand from Nationals Japan 2018, and a True-Name Nemesis from Eternal Weekend Europe 2019.

Condition and photographs

None of these are signed, and only one is stitched. Every listing uses real photographs of the actual playmat, so you can check the surface and printing before buying.
