Mox Opal Playmats

Our three Mox Opal playmats each use a different illustrator's version of the card: Volkan Baǵa's original 2010 Scars of Mirrodin artwork, from Grand Prix Singapore 2015; Chris Rahn's Kaladesh Inventions version, from Grand Prix Dallas-Fort Worth 2016; and Dan Frazier's 2023 Secret Lair artwork, the one piece of the three signed by the artist.

The modern Mox

Mox Opal debuted in Scars of Mirrodin (2010) with art by Volkan Baǵa — a Mox printed seventeen years after the original cycle, and one that can actually be played: legal in Modern, Legacy, Vintage and Commander, though banned in Duel Commander and Historic. That debut printing was also its first foil. Four artists have illustrated it; three of them are here.

Three versions, three artists

Chris Rahn illustrated the card for Kaladesh Inventions (2016), the masterpiece series printed alongside that set. Dan Frazier, who illustrated the original Alpha Mox cycle in 1993, returned to the subject for a Secret Lair Drop in 2023 — his playmat here is signed.

What's in this collection

The Baǵa and Rahn versions come from Grand Prix Singapore 2015 and Grand Prix Dallas-Fort Worth 2016 respectively. The Frazier playmat, using his Secret Lair artwork, is the signed piece of the three.
