Vance Kovacs Playmats

Our Vance Kovacs playmats cover two cards, each in two versions — Dragon Token, one plain and one signed, and Verdant Catacombs, his original 2009 fetchland illustration for Zendikar, also offered plain and signed. Half of these are signed, spanning a Magic career that runs from Darksteel (2004) to Secrets of Strixhaven Commander (2026).

From Darksteel to Hollywood

Vance Kovacs' Magic illustrations first appeared in Darksteel (2004) and continue into current sets, most recently Secrets of Strixhaven Commander (2026). He illustrated Verdant Catacombs for its debut in Zendikar (2009) — the same artwork used on both playmats in this collection. Beyond Magic, he has worked as a concept artist on major productions including The Chronicles of Narnia, Black Panther, Planet of the Apes, The Lion King, Jungle Book and Thor, and on games including God of War.
