Paolo Parente Playmats

Our Paolo Parente playmats cover three of his illustrations — Masticore, Misdirection and Thing from the Deep — all signed by the artist. Most are individually hand-drawn originals, including a one-of-a-kind reinterpretation titled “Misdirected Masticore.” The Masticore from Eternal Weekend Lucca 2025 is a stitched Limited Edition of 66 copies.

From Portal to the present

Paolo Parente's Magic illustrations first appeared in Portal (1997) and continue into current sets, most recently The Hobbit Eternal (2026). He has contributed to Secret Lair (2022) and to Universes Beyond crossovers including Marvel Super Heroes.

The first artist on all three cards

Every card in this collection debuted with Parente's own illustration: Thing from the Deep in Portal (1997), Masticore in Urza's Destiny (1999) and Misdirection in Mercadian Masques (1999). None of the three had been illustrated by anyone before him.

What's in this collection

Most playmats here are individually hand-drawn originals rather than reproductions of the printed card art. “Misdirected Masticore” is a one-of-a-kind hand-drawn interpretation of Misdirection, not tied to any official card printing. The Masticore released at Eternal Weekend Lucca 2025 is a stitched Limited Edition of 66 copies.

Condition and photographs

Because these are signed pieces, most of them individually hand-drawn, condition matters as much as the artwork. Every listing uses real photographs of the actual playmat, so you can check the surface and the signature before buying.
