Collection: Rob Alexander Playmats

Our Rob Alexander playmats cover four of the original ten dual lands from Limited Edition Alpha — Badlands, Savannah, Taiga and Underground Sea — alongside Temple Garden, Hallowed Fountain, Oboro, Palace in the Clouds and Shivan Reef. Most are signed. The collection also includes original Hareruya-commissioned pieces and a multi-artist collaboration, "The Gathering: Reuniting Pioneering Artists of Magic."

From the first dual lands to modern Ravnica

Rob Alexander's Magic illustrations first appeared in Limited Edition Alpha (1993) and continued across three decades, most recently with Secrets of Strixhaven Commander (2026). He contributed to a Secret Lair Drop in 2023, and in 2016 created a new illustration for Sensei's Divining Top in Eternal Masters, replacing Michael Sutfin's original Champions of Kamigawa (2004) art — offered here as a Star City Games Open edition.

Four of the original dual lands

He illustrated four of the ten original dual lands printed in Limited Edition Alpha — Badlands, Savannah, Taiga and Underground Sea — all Reserved List cards, and this collection includes playmats of all four, most signed. He later released a black-and-white edition of his dual land art — the same illustrations in grayscale — and three are represented here: Badlands, Taiga and Underground Sea. Their most recent reprint came in the 30th Anniversary Edition (2022), a non-tournament-legal appearance.

What's in this collection

Beyond the original duals, the catalog includes two of Ravnica's shock lands — Temple Garden (2005) and Hallowed Fountain (2006), both later reprinted in Ravnica Remastered (2024) — Oboro, Palace in the Clouds (2005), Shivan Reef (2001) and a foil-only Exalted Angel promo (2006).

Original pieces and a multi-artist collaboration

The catalog also includes original Hareruya-commissioned pieces not tied to any Magic card — "Spring Sakura," "Underground Sun" and "Snow-Covered Fuji" — and "The Lurker," made for the Judge Rewards program at Grand Prix Utrecht 2015. "The Gathering: Reuniting Pioneering Artists of Magic" is a large multi-artist collaboration; Rob Alexander is one of its credited artists, not solo work.

Condition and photographs

Because many of these are signed, individually finished pieces, condition matters as much as the artwork. Every listing uses real photographs of the actual playmat, so you can check the surface and the signature before buying.
