From Mirage to Secret Lair
John Avon's Magic art dates back to Mirage (1996), where his first card was a Mountain, and continues into 2026 with a Secret Lair promo. His illustrations debuted most often in Odyssey, Champions of Kamigawa and Planar Chaos, and he has contributed to Secret Lair since 2020.
All five Unhinged basic lands
Unhinged (2004) printed its five basic lands with his art, and all five are here as signed playmats — the Swamp is also in our Swamp collection. A later Island of his from Unsanctioned (2020), sold here as "Squirrel Island," is signed too.
What's in this collection
His card art also covers Lotus Field (Core Set 2020, signed), Lotus Vale (Weatherlight), Darksteel Citadel (Darksteel) and Mutavault, on a playmat from Grand Prix 2018 — his Mutavault first appeared as a Magic Online promo and reached paper as a Grand Prix promo that year.
The other pieces were never cards. Archway Swamp, Forgotten Plains, Lost Forest, Ruined Island and Windy Mountain form a line of five made for the Brazilian store Central Acessórios. Lotus Island and Lotus Swamp are signed and stitched Limited Editions of 500, and "Aurora's Light," from the SCG Tour, and a Big Magic Open Yokohama 2016 playmat carry art made for those events.
Condition and photographs
Because several of these are signed pieces, condition matters as much as the artwork. Every listing uses real photographs of the actual playmat, so you can check the surface and the signature before buying.
